If you are feeling sympathetic and you want to be able to understand another people or another place or another country or another way of life one of the easiest things to do is to try to do this bleeding heart thing where you send the money away and Sally Struthers just tells you what a great person you are. This is one of the biggest misconceptions about people when they feel like they know what's going on in a foreign country just because they read about it in a magazine article or watched a special about it on PBS. This is not at all the case and one of the biggest places where this happens is in Nigeria.

People feel that they know about Nigeria because they know the facts and they are able to deal with the people of Nigeria because they know about what is being reported to them. The people in Nigeria have a separate problem all her own and no one else can know it. It's just like dealing with someone domestically who is a criminal or has a mental handicap or a terminal illness; people may save you that they understand what you're going through but nobody can really understand even if it's the same thing because relationships are different in individual from person to person.

For this reason people try to fly the Nigeria flag whenever they can. The Nigeria flag is one of the most often cited things that people are able to get on the level with and really throw their support behind. Unfortunately for the people of Nigeria or for the people who feel like they understand the people of Nigeria, they do not understand. The Nigeria flag represents something different to each person who is from Nigeria in unless you live there are less you've experienced the travails for people from Nigeria it's impossible to put yourself on that same level. For this reason the Nigeria flag is a nice thing to look at but not always a nice thing to try to understand.
